The Roster

The Roster is how teams were assembled and how they were played: the draft, the trades, the wire, the keepers, the lineup. Desk fronts lead with the reads; the ledgers are filed underneath.

The reads

Championships are kept, not drafted. Of the 96 skill-position core slots on nineteen title teams, 52 percent were continuity, kept or held from a previous roster. Ten percent were drafted that year. Kickers and defences hold 18 further slots and are counted apart, because a streamed defence is claimed and dropped too often for the archive to follow.

On this page

The board is a lottery where round one sells the most tickets. Mean stint return is positive in three rounds of twelve, but only round one survives losing its best pick, and three of four first-round picks still fail.

The ledger: The Draft

Two managers are the trade market. Pete has been on one side of 37 of the league's 58 trades. George has made one in nineteen years, and it won somebody else a championship.

The ledger: The Trades

The best acquisitions are free. Eight of the fifty Ring of Honor careers came off waivers at no draft cost, Tyreek Hill among them.

The ledger: The Wire

The ledgers

2,021 picks across eighteen boards, valued over each pick's stint
all 58, both sides, with traded picks traced to the players they became
2,521 adds and drops, the regret index, and the offseason stash audit
76 careers, with acquisition history and title contribution
the fifty greatest careers, each priced by how it was acquired
Every ledger on this desk is drawn from the source tables: 2,021 picks across eighteen boards, 58 trades, and 1,656 significant waiver claims of 3,033 made. Kickers and defenses appear in all three and nowhere else on the site.
